The mountains of Romania remain a mystery as there is little evidence of what is known as the practice of the archaeology of the mountains. Many discoveries are accidental, by hikers, mountaineers, or climbers. This was also the case with rock art in the Somes river valley in NW Transylvania.
The start point of your adventure is the city of Timisoara, an easily accessible place by air (several daily low-cost flights from many European countries) or by car (from central Europe or the Balkans).
In this 2-day tour, you will explore amazing newly discovered engravings in the soft limestone making the ancient shores of the Somes river. Marc has visited this site back in 2016 with professional archaeologists but in the meantime, new paleolithic art has been discovered in the area. Prices range from 85 EUR to 965 EUR per person depending on the group size (up to 6 persons) and transportation mode (bus/private car) and include transportation, accommodation, and the professional tour guide. If you wish you can combine this trip with the visit to the Tarcu Mountains petroglyphs. In that case, prices range from 90 EUR to 1099 EUR per person.
