The Malta temples date from the early Neolithic period, around 5,500 to 2,500 BCE. They are listed as the oldest free standing structures in the world. Numerous archaeoastronomical studies have attempted to describe their orientation and also change in the orientation between temples of different time periods.

In this tour we explore three main sites, Tarxien, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, and Ggantija. We will also see the Malta National Museum of Archaeology. The highlight of our tour is the equinox sunrise from the Mnajdra temples.

During the tour, Marc will explain their history, theories, and pseudo-theories around their origin and purpose.

Our trip starts in Malta.

Upon arrival you will head to your apartment by taking a bus, taxi, or walking from the airport.

After that we will take the bus and visit the National Museum of Archaeology and the Tarxien temples.

On day 2 we will visit Ggantja and Hagar Qim sites by shared ride. If time permits we will visit in the evening the Blue Cave.

On day 3 we wake up early and witness the equinox sunrise from the Mnajdra temples.

• Entry to the mentioned temples and museum
• Equinox sunrise entry (tickets are limited and in case of sold outs you will be reimbursed the value of the ticket). We will try to get at least one ticket per group if you come accompanied.
• Transportation between temples and to/from the museum

• Accommodation for 2 nights based on double occupancy. Note that most places are guesthouses and we will try to group you as close as possible. You will only be booked in a single room if the number of same-gender participants is odd.
