Solar observations

Daily images of the Sun (weather permitting)

Equipment:

  • Lunt40 with a B600 H-alpha filter
  • ASI120 MC camera
  • Solarquest Skywatcher mount
  • AI model to automatically identify the key features of the Sun (custom-made). NOTE: The accuracy is not 100% and sometimes it confuses features such as sunspots and filaments. It also sometimes misses some obvious (for humans) ones. The labels should be taken as recommendations, not absolute feature classes. As we gather more data better models will be trained.
    • Starting with 9 August 2023 a new improved model trained on more data is used to display the identified features on the solar disk.

Current location: Romania (formerly in Nottingham UK)

The dark patch that appears in images before 25 October 2023 near the upper left limb of the Sun comes from dust on the camera sensor.

The images represent single frames (not stacked) taken during an observing session usually in the morning or around noon.
