Lepenski Vir<\/strong> is the place where Mesolithic people (8000 years ago) chose to build their village such that it aligns with the solstice sunrise over the Trescov\u0103\u021b mountain on the other side of the Danube. The area is home to some of the most advanced cultures in the Balkans and Europe, the Star\u010devo-Cri\u0219 and Vin\u010da cultures. In the museum, we will see the mysterious fish-people figurines<\/strong>. Our tour will also include a visit to the Museum of Mountain Banat to see some amazing and mysterious artifacts from those cultures on display there, as well as a visit to the only prehistoric rock art cave in Banat<\/strong>. On our way, we will visit the place where Hercules placed its famous columns (yes, the original legends place them on Istros\/Danube, not in Spain which was probably unknown to the ancient Greeks).<\/p>\r\n Depending on your arrival\/departure time, we will visit the modern Stonehenge monument in Timi\u0219oara<\/strong> as well.<\/p>\r\n Our tour starts and ends in Timi\u0219oara<\/strong>.<\/p>","wp_travel_outline":" Our journey starts in Timi\u0219oara<\/strong>, the city of roses and the 2023 European Capital of Culture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n If you arrive early we will have a tour of the city including the Stonehenge monument<\/strong>.<\/p>\n From Timi\u0219oara we head towards Or\u0219ova on the shores of the Danube (Istros or Okeanos) river where legends say Hercules built its pillars<\/strong> on the island of Ada Kale now submerged under waters due to the construction of the Iron Gates I dam.<\/p>\n In Or\u0219ova we will take a boat trip to visit the Tabula Traiana which marks the road Roman emperor Trajan built for its conquest of Dacia. We will also have lunch there.<\/p>\n We continue to Drobeta and cross the Iron Dam into Serbia where we spend the night.\u00a0 On arrival we will check-in in a 3* hotel or guesthouse and enjoy the summer evening there.<\/p>\n We will take a light breakfast (or take boxes to eat after sunrise) and head to Lepenski Vir<\/strong>, the place of the earliest known solar alignment in Europe<\/strong> and home to a highly advanced Mesolithic culture older than anything in the Western megalithic world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Note: as we lack the power of the ancient deities to control the weather, in case of cloudy skies we will see a simulation of the sunrise and pictures from past events.<\/em><\/p>\n After witnessing the sunrise we will visit the museum.<\/p>\n We depart for Moldova Nou\u0103 in Romania crossing the Danube by ferry at 9:15 am. On the Romanian side, we will visit a less-known and hidden to tourists ancient site<\/strong> depicting wonderful rock art<\/strong> dating back several thousands of years. The short hike uphill is on rocky terrain and those unable to do it can watch the visit live stream on their phones.<\/p>\n We will eat lunch in a traditional guesthouse.<\/p>\n Optionally (if you still have the energy) we can witness the once in the 19-year event<\/span>, the lunastice moonrise<\/strong> from the Neolithic Vatin Circles in Serbia <\/strong>before heading to Timi\u0219oara where our trip ends.<\/p>","wp_travel_trip_include":"\n
